Zach's story

Zach's story

Where to start when The Autism Project has done so much to improve not just Zach’s life but our whole family’s life. Not just because we get respite, and time to get chores done, but when Zach is home he is much happier, and more able to follow directions that when he began at TAP. It’s an absolute joy to see all of the positive changes in Zachary.

Without TAP we could never have known Zach thrives on being kept busy, and just how much he enjoys lots of different activities. When Ashley suggests something new, instead of thinking there’s no way Zach will do that, I now know he will probably love it.

With a teenager that’s considered “low functioning”, the staff never see that, but instead always see potential ability. Zach now swims thanks to TAP, loves art (he hates art at school), loves music, and loves to work at The Food Pantry. It’s really nice to know that he is interested in more than just McDonalds.

I would be remiss if not mentioning the incredibly compassionate way we were helped this summer during a family tragedy. From the moment we contacted Ms. Angel, the immediate support and help we received was incredible, and the fact that we knew Zach was taken care of, for as much time as needed, relieved an immense amount of stress. Thank you also to some amazing families that took time from their busy lives to provide meals. We will always remember and be grateful.

The patience and understanding that is always shows by all staff members of TAP makes life with autism a lot easier. Thank you for providing such an incredible service to our community.
